Summer 2010 must surely go down as one of the greatest ever in Margaret River. Weeks and weeks of balmy temperatures perfectly matched to last year’s Semillon Sauvignon Blancs and the occasional Crayfish.
We start autumn with the residual enthusiasm of summer. And what a start….. I have just spent the past weekend beach camping, canoeing, Tropfest movies, lunching at Must Restaurant and cow spotting.
Cow Parade has officially launched!
We spent some very enjoyable hours wandering the region locating cows. Discovering places we’ve never, but should have, visited. Including 34 Degrees South Olive Oil, Jesters Flat horse riding and a well overdue visit to Colonial Brewery.
We found just over twenty cows, a mere 25% of the total cows. It looks like we have several more weekends of spotting ahead of us. It’s surprisingly good fun.
I can confidently and enthusiastically say the Cows are definitely worth a visit to Margaret River over the next month or two. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see some inspired art in stunning (and some odd) locations.
Well done to all the Cow supporters, logistics crew, sponsors and artists who have worked tirelessly on bringing this event together. Even the naysayers must surely be impressed with the scale and scope of the installations.
My favourite cow was created by local artist and surfer Ron Roozen. His take on the controversial ‘chick on a stick’ at Laurance Vineyard. There is much political background to this installation …. join me on a Margaret River Discovery tour for all the local goss! (thanks Wine by Brad for the photo).

Great picture, I too loved this cow. You must be gearing up for spring now. Have you been for a ride at Jesters Flat? I am a regular and I love the Polocrosse. Paul Brennan is great inspiration having played for Australia. I also think the Colonials IPA beer is a winner.
Thanks for the picture.
